Restaurants lend a hand in Minneapolis’ recovery
efforts
ST. PAUL , Minn. (Aug. 3) Restaurants in Minneapolis
and St. Paul are providing meals to recovery workers
and others dealing with the aftermath of the collapse
Wednesday of a local bridge that was packed with
rush-hour commuters, an industry officials said.
“This
is the kind of thing this industry does all the
time,” commented David Siegel, chief executive
of Hospitality Minnesota, a state association for
restaurants and hotels. “We have had an outpouring
of support from other restaurant associations,
wanting to know if everybody is OK.”
Among
the restaurants he knows of with Twin Cities locations
that have prepared food for workers, Siegel said,
are Ruth’s Chris, Outback Steakhouse and
Duluth-based Grandma’s Restaurant. The association
has been directing people who want to help to the
Twin Cities chapter of the American Red Cross.
“This
effort will go on for quite awhile and will require
continued contributions,” Siegel said.
